“Every day I am in competition with myself. I always want to do things better. Life has taught me that no one will come to my rescue. After all, I discovered a long time ago that I have to create my own way and force myself to be strong enough to do the things I want.”

When I meet Noomi Rapace in her London apartment, where she lives with her son Lev, the thirty-two-year-old Swedish actress has just received some good news: she will be on stage in Paris together with Mick Jagger and the rest of the Stones, to play various roles in a large musical video production directed by her friend and compatriot Jonas Åkerlund.

But before this we will see her in Passion by Brian De Palma, her third blockbuster hit in a year that was truly whirling. In December 2011, in fact, she played her first role in English, Sherlock Holmes – Game of Shadows by Guy Ritchie, then the world admired her in the battles of “Prometheus”, the epic science fiction film by Ridley Scott.

These roles took her from the level of cult pin-up, that she acquired thanks to her tormented role of Lisbeth Salander in Millennium. Men Who Hate Women, to that of a name that stands out in Hollywood.

Rapace, however, seems to be a little dismayed by this sudden pressure. «I never compare myself to my colleagues from the world of the cinema», she says. «I am in competition with myself every day».
